PFAS contaminated substances
What is it?

Per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of human-made chemicals used in various industrial and consumer products for their water and grease-resistant properties. PFAS wastes contain persistent and bioaccumulative chemicals. They're considered waste due to disposal, remediation or end-of-life processes. PFAS wastes takes many forms including contaminated materials, products or by-products that contain or have been exposed to PFAS compounds. Common types of PFAS include:

  • Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) - Used in the production of non-stick cookware, water-repellent outdoor gear, and certain types of firefighting foam.
  • Perfluorooctanesulfonic Acid (PFOS) - Found in similar applications as PFOA, including firefighting foam
  • Perfluorobutanesulfonic Acid (PFBS) - A shorter-chain PFAS used as a replacement for longer-chain compounds in some applications.
How we treat M270 PFAS contaminated substances:

The management and disposal of PFAS wastes can be challenging due to their potential environmental and health impacts. Incineration has been explored previously, but sustainable and effective solutions remain ongoing. As the understanding of PFAS risks evolves, responsible waste management practices are crucial to mitigate the potential impacts on ecosystems and human health. We treat PFAS management with a non-destructive patented process.
